Consultant Vascular Surgeon

Alok qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London in 1996 and then undertook basic surgical training at Princess Alexandra Hospital. He completed a Master of Surgery degree at the Royal Free Hospital in London. His thesis was the ‘Development of a hybrid cardiovascular graft using a tissue engineering approach’. He presented and published extensively from this.

He received specialist registrar training in London and Essex in both general and vascular surgery. During this time he undertook a one year Vascular fellowship at the prestigious Westmead Vascular Unit in Sydney, Australia where he learnt endovascular techniques to allow the treatment of patients using minimally invasive methods including angioplasty and endovascular aneurysm Repair. He was appointed to University Hospital Birmingham in 2011 and worked in Singapore for 12 months in 2017-8.

Alok is also a honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Birmingham and University of Aston involved in teaching and training medical students. His interest are in teaching and training of vascular surgeons and had organised various courses for this. He performs EVLT under local anaesthetic and has taught many doctors on how to perform this procedure over the years as well as publishing papers from his data.
